Come and join us in YWAM Chiang Mai as a long-term staff member! If you are simply interested in learning about joining staff, have a general interest in Chiang Mai, or would like to start a new ministry here in Thailand, please read on, as there are a few points that we would like you to be aware of before beginning the application process.
Joining a Local Ministry
If you are considering joining a specific ministry of YWAM Chiang Mai, you should contact them directly, as various ministries may have additional forms, requirements, and slightly differing application processes.
Culture and Language
During your first 12 months in Thailand we ask staff new to Thailand to join our Culture and Language (C&L) program, which is designed to provide you with support, encouragement and advice as you establish a firm foundation with the Thai language and culture. This greatly helps people adjust to Thailand and learn effective ways of ministering to the Thai people. Your local C&L leader will work with you to identify your unique language and culture learning goals and plan a strategy to best meet those goals. You are encouraged to also be involved in ministry during this time.
Some ministries have specific language requirements. So, if you already know which ministry you will be involved with, please check with that ministry leader in advance to better understand their expectations of your culture and language learning.
Pioneering a New Ministry
If you are new to Thailand and seek to pioneer a new YWAM Thailand ministry, we recommend that you join and serve an existing ministry during your C&L phase. This gives you time to adjust to Thailand, and learn the language and culture before diving into the challenge of starting a new ministry. In all situations, a strategic plan for a new ministry must be submitted to and approved by the City Leadership Team. Contact us to learn more.
Visas
There are a number of different types of visas that people obtain to live and work in Thailand, and the laws change frequently. One option is a visa available through YWAM. We will do our best to help you obtain a one-year visa through YWAM prior to your arrival here; however, included in the guidelines for this type of visa, it will be necessary for you to leave Thailand and re-enter the country approximately every 90 days. In addition, this visa must be obtained every 12-15 months by applying (in person) in your home country or another country. More information related to obtaining a visa will be sent to you after you submit your YWAM Thailand application. Please be aware that the Thai Authorities approval of your visa application is never guaranteed. Other types of visas have different requirements and expectations. Please contact us for more information about visa options.
